NUH, 28 March – The month-long Sepak Takraw Tournament, organized by the Rohingya Development Initiative (RDI), a group of young Rohingya refugees in India, was inaugurated yesterday with great enthusiasm. The tournament aims to provide a platform for the Rohingya refugees residing in Nuh district of Haryana state in India to showcase their talent and engage in positive social activities.

According to the RDI, a total of 10 teams have enthusiastically participated in this tournament. The opening ceremony witnessed the Founder of RDI, Mohammad Enamul, addressing the crowd and expressing the organization’s vision and objectives. Enamul stated, “We established RDI with the intention of preventing Rohingya youths from engaging in negative activities and encouraging their active participation in various social endeavors.”
As part of their first major initiative, RDI took the initiative to organize the Sepak Takraw tournament, fully funded by the organization itself. Enamul further explained, “We currently have about 12 camps participating in this tournament, and we are committed to completing the event within the next month.”

Emphasizing the need for support, Enamul expressed the organization’s desire to collaborate with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working with refugees. He stated, “While we have initiated our activities with our own funding, we believe that with the support of NGOs, we can expand our reach and make an even greater impact.”
The Sepak Takraw tournament not only provides an opportunity for the Rohingya refugees to engage in healthy competition but also serves as a platform for fostering unity and camaraderie among the community. As the tournament progresses, it is expected to attract a wide audience, creating a sense of belonging and empowerment for the participating teams.

The RDI’s Sepak Takraw Tournament 2024 promises to be an exciting event, showcasing the talent and resilience of the Rohingya refugee community in India. As the tournament unfolds, all eyes will be on the players as they display their skills and determination on the court, proving that sports can transcend boundaries and bring communities together.
