Yesterday night, a shell fired by the military council exploded in a residential area of Sittwe city, killing 5 Muslims on the spot and injuring more than 10.

A female patient attendant at Sittwe City Hospital said, “I just returned from the hospital. Five people died on the spot. More than ten were injured. I saw about five children among the injured. One of the patient attendants said that her brother’s family had two husbands and wives who died at the same time and their two children were seriously injured. It is very sad to see.”

Yesterday, March 9th, at around 11:00 p.m., an artillery shell in the Military Council Police Battalion fired on purpose and exploded in the Impala Muslim neighborhood in Sittwe.

A politician from Sittwe said, “Now everyone can see that the military council is creating ethnic and religious conflicts in Rakhine. It is a known issue. The army is based around Sittwe. In the river, the naval ships have taken their place. It is not possible for anyone to take their hands off their hands,” he said.

A curfew has been issued in Sittwe, and when no one dares to go outside, 3 military vehicles entered the area where the weapon exploded and took the injured to Sittwe Hospital. Residents said that the deceased were taken from the hospital in 2 ambulances.

A resident of the city said that it is especially worrying because the military council is firing heavy weapons at the residential areas of the city and there are mass casualties.

“Looking at the place where the heavy weapon fell, I thought it was Kakein village. The heavy weapon fell in Impala (Aung Myung) near Kakein village. This is the second death, so the residents are very worried and scared. They don’t know when and what will happen,” he said.
