In a distressing development, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh, India, has unlawfully apprehended four Rohingya individuals, including three vulnerable women, who sought refuge in the state on March 29, as per reliable sources.
The detained individuals, identified as Amir Hamza (21), Minna Jahan (19), Sukura Baigong (22), and Onat Tara Baigong (22), were forcibly taken into custody while traveling towards New Delhi on a train, without any legal justification.
Disturbingly, it has been reported that these Rohingyas were targeted merely for seeking safety and protection, having fled persecution in their homeland. The state police chief Prashant Kumar’s claims of them using fake identity cards are baseless and discriminatory.
Additionally, it has come to light that three of the apprehended women were victims of ruthless human trafficking, manipulated by exploitative individuals who falsely promised them employment opportunities in Myanmar but instead subjected them to exploitation in various parts of India.
This appalling incident echoes a disturbing trend of targeting innocent Rohingya refugees, reminiscent of a similar injustice perpetrated in February last year when eight Rohingyas were unjustly detained for seeking safety and asylum in India.
