At least 177 border guard personnel from Myanmar military junta, who sought refuge in Bangladesh during clashes with the Arakan Army (AA) fighters in northern Maungdaw township, will be sent back between 1 and 5 April.
Mohsmad Zakaria, executive officer of Naikhongchhari upazila in Bandarban district, stated that the repatriation process is looked after by the Bangla foreign ministry.
“Bangladesh foreign affairs ministry has decided to send them back soon. The repatriation of 177 Myanmar nationals is being kept confidential. They will be sent back shortly in accordance with previous regulations,” he added.
They may be repatriated to Myanmar by the first week of April, confirmed by multiple sources.
These border guard personnel are individuals, who fled during clashes with the AA fighters on 11 March and sought refuge in Naikhongchhari locality of the neighbouring country.
