A total of 179 members of the Border Guard Police (BGP) of Myanmar have again fled to Bangladesh due to the conflict inside Myanmar. They have been disarmed and kept in BGB custody. Currently, their Naikshyongcharis are kept in 11th BGB Battalion School.
Meanwhile, to keep the situation normal, instructions have been given to the local UP chairmen including strengthening the BGB patrol, increasing intelligence surveillance, said the district administration. However, it was not confirmed when they will be sent back to Myanmar.
Deputy Commissioner of Bandarban Shah Mojahid Uddin said, 179 members of BGP who escaped from Myanmar have been disarmed and kept in Border Guard Government Primary School in Naikshyongchari Sadar. Intelligence surveillance has been increased besides strengthening BGB patrols to keep the border situation normal.
Meanwhile, a UP member named Saber Hussain was injured in firing from across the Jamchari border in Naikshyongchari of Bandarban. However, the hospital authorities said that he is out of danger.
BGB and local public representatives said that no gunshots were heard since last Monday and no fresh infiltration by BGP members.
Last Monday around 11 am, 29 BGP members first fled to Bangladesh through the middle area of border pillar number 45-46 of Jamchari area of Naikshyongchari border in Bandarban. Later again from evening till 8 pm another 150 people fled and took shelter.
